# Sock puppets

## Overview

A **sock puppet i**s a fake online identity that has no ties back to yourself. This can be a fake social media accounts, emails etc.

The whole point of having a **sock puppet** is investigate other people without drawing attention back to yourself

Having history and data to the **sock puppet** adds legitimacy to it making it look real.

1. Either use a VPN or Public Wi-Fi for this whole process
2. Create a fake name and other relevant "personal" information using [this](https://www.fakenamegenerator.com/)
